SPRING Waiting for the spring thaw can be lengthy because of late winter blizzards. However, fun can still be found down at Lead and Deadwood casinos. If you are not a big gambler, these historical mining towns have much more to offer with fine dining, great live entertainment, interesting museums, and a friendly town atmosphere. If your luck went bad at the slots, try your skill on the greens. There are four area golf courses: Lead Country Club, Spearfish Canyon Course, Boulder Canyon Course, and Tomahawk Country Club. Each has its share of hazards, man-made and natural. SUMMER The Black Hills are filled with hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails. Animals and equipment can all be rented from nearby specialty stores. If sight-seeing is more your style, the largest working gold mine in the Northern Hemisphere, Homestake, is located in Lead. Also Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, and many more exciting places are all within hours away.
FALL For the sportsman, deer, elk, and wild turkey hunting are popular activities in the late fall. The Hills are loaded with wild game as well as the clear mountain streams that are filled with fish. You can still enjoy all the comforts of home while “roughing it” in the wilderness with electric heat, stove, plush carpet, and running water.
WINTER Terry Peak Ski Resort is within walking distance from the Dream Catcher, with Stewart Ski Lodge just down the road. All levels of skiers can enjoy these slopes all day long and into the night with skiing at Deer Mountain, located a few miles away. Terry Peak is located along a natural snow belt and averages 150 inches of primal powder snow a year.
